UZIN UTZ named Sustainability Champion of the Year at the National Flooring Awards 2026

UZIN UTZ UK has been named Sustainability Champion of the Year at the National Flooring Awards 2026, recognising the company’s sustained commitment to more responsible flooring installation solutions, manufacturing and product innovation. The award was presented to Mathew Brown, Managing Director of UZIN UTZ UK Ltd, at the National Flooring Awards ceremony at the Majestic Hotel & Spa in Harrogate on 19th September. The awards celebrate outstanding people and businesses from across the UK flooring sector.

UZIN UTZ’s recognition reflects a long-term approach to sustainability spanning product development, responsible manufacturing, and practical support for flooring professionals. The National Flooring Awards’ Sustainability Champion of the Year category recognises organisations demonstrating leadership in sustainability within the flooring industry. UZIN UTZ’s win reinforces its ambition to provide practical, high-performing solutions that support both flooring professionals and a more sustainable built environment.

Sustainability in practice

UZIN UTZ is focused on developing flooring installation systems that help contractors meet demanding performance requirements while reducing environmental impact. Most products are solvent-free and low-emission, with many certified to EMICODE EC1 PLUS, supporting high indoor-air-quality standards. The company also offers products with Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), which can support projects pursuing environmental assessment requirements such as LEED, BREEAM, SKA and ISO 14025.

Responsible manufacturing is also central to the company’s approach. This includes using Biomass Balance raw materials in certain products. These products include a proportion of raw materials made from bio-based origins. Compared with fossil fuels alone, combining renewable resources and fossil fuels significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Selected products are produced via CO2-neutral manufacturing at an energy-efficient factory to help offset the environmental impact of production. The facility incorporates energy-efficient, resource-conscious measures, including a sedum roof, pellet and geothermal heating, rainwater reuse and sensor-controlled lighting.

Product innovation supporting sustainability

For more than 75 years, UZIN has developed adhesive solutions designed to combine dependable on-site performance with low-emission formulations and stringent environmental standards. Its adhesive range supports safer, more efficient flooring installations across applications including LVT, vinyl, linoleum, and carpet.

UZIN’s FusionTec smoothing-compound technology is another example of this approach. By combining calcium sulphate and cement-based binders, FusionTec delivers strong performance, reliable drying and a smooth finish while offering an improved carbon footprint compared with traditional cementitious smoothing compounds. The calcium sulphate component helps reduce CO₂ emissions, while the cement element supports compressive strength and faster drying.
