Museumplein C-City, Kerkrade | NL

After an impressive construction period, in October 2015 three museums on the Museumplein in Kerkrade were opened to the public. The Cube design museum, Columbus earth theatre and the Connector, that join the new construction to the existing Continium Discovery Center, stand out by their special architecture. During construction, sustainability, low energy consumption and a high-quality finish were the priorities.

Each day several thousands of visitors arrive at the museum, that has been given the name C-City. This involves the necessary requirements for the interior, including the floor finish. Sustainable Arturo PU self-smoothing floors from UZIN UTZ Nederland have been used in the restaurant, the kitchen, all meeting rooms and the associated circulation areas. The floors are processed on location by the company Interbase from Beek en Donk, who UZIN UTZ Nederland has already been working with on projects for more than thirty years.

“The choice was for such a 2,000 m² Arturo PU2060 Self-smoothing Floor in white/green (restaurant), light grey (kitchen) and agate grey (meeting rooms)”, explains Jeroen Strecker, Arturo Brand Manager at UZIN UTZ Nederland  Arturo Flooring. “All floors are finished with a wear-resistant, pigmented Arturo PU7900 Sealer, that further enhances the attractive appearance, safety and the life and cleanability of the floors. Dirt adhesion is also kept to a minimum. The sealer also adds a UV-resistant layer so no discolouration will occur in the future. The result is a sustainable, clean and seamless floor that can certainly take a knock.”
